The math, made simple
How to calculate your grade
Your current grade is a percentage of the work graded so far. The grading scale you choose then turns that percentage into a letter grade.
Points-based grades
Add up the points you earned across your graded assignments, then divide by the points those assignments were worth.
Grade = total points earned ÷ total points possible × 10018/20 and 42/50 → 60 ÷ 70 × 100 = 85.7%
Weighted grades
When homework, quizzes, and exams count for different percentages of the course, each score counts according to its weight. Qeemio adds up score × weight for every graded category and divides by the weight graded so far.
Current grade = sum of (score × weight) ÷ total graded weight80% at 20% and 90% at 30% → (80 × 20 + 90 × 30) ÷ 50 = 86.0%
Weight that is not graded yet is shown separately as remaining work, so an early grade is never mistaken for your finished course grade.
Points vs. weighted grades
Use Points
When your gradebook lists scores as points, such as 18 out of 20 on a quiz. Every point counts equally.
Use Weighted
When your syllabus gives categories percentage weights, such as homework 20%, quizzes 30%, and exams 50%. Weighted mode works as a weighted grade calculator for those categories.
What grade do I need on remaining work?
Choose a target letter grade in the Target planner. In Points mode, enter the points still available. In Weighted mode, the remaining work is the course weight that has not been graded yet.
Qeemio shows the minimum you need on that remaining work, rounded up so it is never too low. It also tells you when a target is already secured, or when it cannot be reached without extra credit.
If the main thing left is a final exam, the Final Grade Calculator works directly from your current grade and the exam's weight.
Grade calculator example
A weighted course where half of the grade has been assessed, using the Simple A–F scale.
Weighted mode with a target
- Homework (20% of course)
- 80%
- Quizzes (30% of course)
- 90%
- Current grade
- 86.0% (B)
- Target
- A (90%)
- Needed on the remaining 50%
- 94.0% average
- Graded work contributes 16 + 27 = 43 points toward the course.
- Current grade: 43 ÷ 50 × 100 = 86.0%, which is a B.
- An A needs 90 points, so the remaining 50% must add 47 more.
- 47 ÷ 50 × 100 = 94.0% average on the remaining work.
Your course rules come first
Qeemio calculates from the scores, weights, and grading scale you enter. Schools and instructors can differ in:
- Grading scales and letter-grade cutoffs
- Rounding
- Extra credit
- Dropped assignments
- Category weights
Check your syllabus or ask your instructor for your official grade.
