The math, made simple

How GPA is calculated

Each course's credit hours are multiplied by the grade points for its grade. That gives the course's quality points. Add up the quality points for every course, then divide by the total GPA credits.

Quality points = grade points × credit hours

GPA = total quality points ÷ total GPA credits

Courses worth 0 credits do not change the result, because they add no quality points and no credits.

Many colleges and high schools use a 4.0 scale, but the details differ between schools. Qeemio can calculate GPA with several reference scales or a custom scale, so use the grading scale your school requires. Choosing a scale changes how grade labels map to grade points. It does not convert grades or credentials between countries or schools.

Plan your future GPA

Want to know what your GPA could be after next term? Enter a target GPA and your remaining credits in Plan my GPA. Qeemio uses the GPA and credits from your current courses to show:

  • the average grade points you need across your remaining credits to finish at your target
  • whether that target is mathematically achievable on your selected scale
  • the highest GPA you could still reach if a target is out of range, or the lowest you could finish with if it is already secured

It does not predict your grades. It shows what the math requires, so you can set a realistic goal. To explore different outcomes, change grades in the course list or save what-if plans and compare them.

Not sure what grade a course will end with? Estimate it first with the Grade Calculator.

Institution presets are references based on each institution's published policy and are not endorsed by those institutions. Policies can change, and other schools in the same country may use different scales.

Calculus3A12.0
Physics4B+13.2
English3A-11.1
Total1036.3

GPA = 36.3 ÷ 10 = 3.63

For example, Physics is 4 credits × 3.3 grade points for a B+ = 13.2 quality points. The same courses give a different result on another scale, because each scale assigns its own grade points.

Your school's policy comes first

Schools vary in how they handle:

  • Pass/fail courses
  • Withdrawn courses
  • Repeated courses
  • A+ grade points
  • Rounding

This calculator does not apply those rules automatically. Leave out courses your school does not count, and check your school's GPA policy for official results.
